Laboratories
For the accomplishment of its academic activities, the students of the PPGDiDeS have at their disposal an air-conditioned laboratory with capacity for 80 people, counting on 40 microcomputers connected to the Internet and 1 printer also connected in network. The lab works full time and students have the support of 1 student monitor at each shift.
As a teaching support tool, students and teachers have an air-conditioned business practice laboratory equipped with 1 projection cannon, 1 projection screen, 1 whiteboard, 1 microcomputer, 1 networked printer and 1 cabinet with two doors. The room also has 8 bays. Each bay has a round table with 5 upholstered chairs, 1 rectangular table, 1 typewriter type chair and 1 microcomputer with internet access.
They also have the facilities of the Research and Extension Unit with several spaces for study, group work and development of research and extension actions, including in this space the Careers Laboratory, the Center for Organizational Studies of the Semiarid (CEOS), duly equipped with computers and furniture.
We also highlight the availability of the use of laboratories and the collection of EMBRAPA Semiarid, a partner in this project and that will greatly contribute to the development of the research object of this proposal. It is also important to highlight the personal collection of the teachers linked to the PPGDiDeS and that will be available to the students enrolled.
Library
Linked to the Office of the Rectory, the Integrated Library System of the UNIVASF (SIBI) is constituted by a Central Library, located at the Petrolina Campus, in Pernambuco, and by the Sectoral libraries. SIBI is responsible for the coordination and administration of libraries and information resources that support teaching, research and extension activities in accordance with UNIVASF policies, plans and programs.
The SIBI is composed of 06 libraries, in which 01 (one) is the central with approximately 2,148.60 m2 of constructed area, located in the Petrolina Campus in Pernambuco and 05 (five) sectoral: Juazeiro Campus in Bahia; Agrarian Sciences Campus in PE; São Raimundo Nonato Campus located at Piauí; Senhor do Bonfim Campus in Bahia and Paulo Afonso Campus also in Bahia.
One of the most modern and complete library management software, the Pergamum System, is available to users of UNIVASF libraries. With this system it is possible to renew and material reserve on any computer with internet access, and also through the cell through the Pergamum mobile.
It has approximately 45,000 copies in its collection, which consists primarily of books, periodicals, maps and multimedia materials. It serves more than 4,500 users, with annual average home loan of 160,000 copies.
The UNIVASF have access to the CAPES Journal Portal which ensures the constant updating of research, since it allows to obtain full text in real time. There are terminals available in the Library that are exclusively destined to the access of scientific databases, as well as already providing remote access to the portal (by previous registration carried out by the CTS of the university).
Some of the main services offered in the libraries of the SIBI network for the academic community are:
- Consultation, loan and return of library materials;
- Training and orientation survey (reference services): Pergamum system and scientific bases (Capes, Scielo, Bireme, etc.) and use of the relevant standards);
- Bibliographic Switching (IBICT / COMUT)
- Cooperative Document Access Service (SCAD)
- Cataloging sheet (cataloging at source);
- Guided tour
It is important to note that UNIVASF libraries participate in the Comut and SCAD system (providing copies of documents), through which it is possible to obtain journal articles, book chapters, theses and dissertations from a variety of databases that are not available in the Collection of UNIVASF libraries.
For attendance to students, the central library (Petrolina / PE) has a reception with 4 employees and 5 computers with internet access; 20 individual student cabinets; 45 large tables with 5 seats each for students; 7 computers in individual offices with internet access; 4 computed individual offices to access the collection of information and; 80 individual lockers with lockable storage for student material. In addition, 3 offices that allocate the general and local directions of the SIBI network libraries.
With regard to the EMBRAPA Semiarid Library, we highlight that it has a collection specialized in agriculture, livestock, natural resources and agribusiness of the Brazilian Semiarid. It is designed to meet the demands of the regional agricultural sector, especially researchers, technicians, students and producers. It has a physical area of 1,200m² and a collection of about 60,000 titles, available in the Databases of the Agricultural Research - BDPA. Finally, it is worth mentioning although it is allowed free access by users and the collection is open to the general public for consultation.
